Swiss Suppers: Introducing My Third Cookbook

I’m thrilled to present my newest cookbook, Swiss Suppers. Published by Helvetiq, this book contains a collection of my favorite recipes for the evening meal, along with stories and descriptions of these traditionally Swiss dishes. These are the supper recipes I use in my own Swiss kitchen—comforting, delicious dishes from across the country.

How many recipes are in this cookbook?

Swiss Suppers contains 52 recipes for the evening meal, including soups, potato dishes, savory tarts, stews, meat dishes, rice and dumplings. One of my family’s favorites is the Churer Fleischtorte, a ground beef pie that also helps you use up stale bread. I also really like Stunggis, a comforting one-pot dish found in central Switzerland that I brighten up with a little apple cider vinegar.

Soupe du Chalet, something like a macaroni and cheese soup.

Another favorite of mine is Stupfete, a warm vinaigrette served with boiled potatoes and a platter of cheese. I make this dish from Thurgau with lots of fresh herbs and crushed red pepper.

The final chapter contains recipes for sweet suppers, such as Fotzelschnitten (French toast) spiced with sandalwood powder, inspired by Magenträs, a specialty found in Glarus.

Where did we take the photos?

As with my previous two books, I had the pleasure of working again with photographer Dorian Rollin and food stylist Camille Stoos. Our photo shoot took place at two locations this time: Taunerhaus in Vinelz (Bern) and the Kaplanei in Ernen (Valais). Both are maintained by Ferien im Baudenkmal, a foundation that preserves and protects historic building by reinventing them as vacation apartments. I’m grateful for the opportunity to use these properties as the backdrop for the supper recipes in the cookbook.

Along with color photos for each recipe, you’ll also find playful, eye-catching illustrations from Jagna Pilczuk throughout the book.

Is Swiss Suppers only available in English?

While I wrote Swiss Suppers in English, the text has also be translated and published in French and German by my publisher, Helvetiq. The French translation, Soupers Suisses, was done by Élodie Levaux, and the German translation, Schwizer Znacht, was done by Daniele Mitidieri.

Where can I buy Swiss Suppers?

You can purchase Swiss Suppers online via Helvetiq in English, German or French. You can also find it at a number of Swiss bookstores, such as Payot (French and English) or Orell Füssli (French, English and German).

When is Swiss Suppers coming to the US?
